International Man of Mystery

Surfboard shaping legend Joe Bauguess, the man responsible for the craftsmanship of the Casper, Sim Fish and RK's 9 foot balsa replica Bob Simmons planning hull. Bauguess has been shaping for Eaton surfboards for over 30 years and has recently been working along side of Richard Kenvin and The Swift Movement to make some pretty mind blowing experimental boards. RK introduced me to Joe, and I got a chance to catch up with him and hang while he was shaping over at Eaton's factory on his last visit to CA.

Legend Lore

At first glance I thought it was "The Swamp Thing". However the primordial looking figure in the photos is Wind and Sea local legend "Kneeboarder Steve".  I saw him while meeting up with J. Hall at Wind and Sea last week. Josh and RK said that Steve has been kneeboarding at Wind and Sea for as long as they can remember. I was blown away just watching Steve gracefully slide, while dodging the dry reef and remaining completely elegant. While surfing at Wind and Sea for the first time the next day with RK, Steve was out there so kneeboarded a couple waves on my 5'5 Keel in honor of him. Keep Shredding Steve!

a visit from RK and Casper

On their recent trip to Cali, Bubbie and Dutchie convinced the swift mover himself Richard Kenvin to come back the big apple. Dutchie and I got to surf with homeboy in what turned out to be a rad session. RK brought "Casper" which is a 5'1" Hydrodynamica test pilot modeled after a Bob Simmons Spoon. Watching what RK was doing with this board was mind boggling. We did a bit of board shuffling in the water and RK and Dutchie ended up surfing the peanut butter 5'5" Twin Keel that I shaped a while ago and I was pleased that they had nothing but great things to say about it. The 7'6" quad "Fish Simmons" that Josh Hall shaped for us ended up getting a couple battle wounds but other than that the session we had was the best I've had in a while.
