a visit from RK and Casper

On their recent trip to Cali, Bubbie and Dutchie convinced the swift mover himself Richard Kenvin to come back the big apple. Dutchie and I got to surf with homeboy in what turned out to be a rad session. RK brought "Casper" which is a 5'1" Hydrodynamica test pilot modeled after a Bob Simmons Spoon. Watching what RK was doing with this board was mind boggling. We did a bit of board shuffling in the water and RK and Dutchie ended up surfing the peanut butter 5'5" Twin Keel that I shaped a while ago and I was pleased that they had nothing but great things to say about it. The 7'6" quad "Fish Simmons" that Josh Hall shaped for us ended up getting a couple battle wounds but other than that the session we had was the best I've had in a while.

6'5 For DKB

I just finished this shape for a good buddy of mine David K Browing. Its a 6'5" Single Fin Swallow tail. The template is pulled in for great down the line speed. The rocker is ideal for steep, hollow and fast wave with some consequence.

Dave shapes under his own label, DKB surfboards. He started shaping boards in his apartment in downtown Manhattan. Before Dave bought a planer he used to skin the blanks by hand with a surform. In a nutshell, Dave is one of the raddest dudes I know.  He and I have worked collaboratively together in the past.

This is Dave holding the 6'3" Double bump quad fish that he and I both shaped together under a double label, Grey Ghost and DKB for his buddy Ptango.

High Top Kickin' Wetsuit Trippin'

Master of the Dutches aka High Top Mike aka Dutchie aka KLM but never the Dutchess of York finds it important to give his wetties a proper slappy test before purchase. I think he was satisfied with this one.

Quad Fish for Pat B

The idea came up when my bredren Pat Butera called me and asked me if it was possible to recycle an old beat up china pop out board. After a look at the board I figured, Why not? Besides I think its a bit ironic to take a pop out and cut it down, shape it by hand and make a once frowned upon board legit. I quickly took him up on the offer and we began discussing possible sizes and templates. When you recycle old board like this you don't have much leeway to adjust the rocker and foil because you start out with very little foam. However the board had a decent amount of nose rocker so I figure if I move the template upward, the tail of the template would sit somewhere around the mid point of the china board leaving me enough meat to create my own rocker in the tail. The china board left me enough room to create a 5'11 double winged quad fish. The shape came out great and since I was soo stoked on the finished product I decided to add some extra touches to it. The board went from rags to riches in a total of 5 hours (including the artwork)

Holy Stubbie Hull!

The Grey Ghost Stubbie Hull in full effect! This board is totally trippy to see in person the pictures do it no justice. It is 5'9" w/ a single layer of 10 ounce volan on the top and bottom and an extra fin patch for added strength while ripping through cut backs. The stringer is a flex-tail to keep a nice lively feel. (Side bites come with the board)
