Chopped Square (White Out)

This is the newest model to come out of my shaping bay. I made this little gem for my buddy Juan after he and I were geeking out on the new Dane Reynolds "Neck Beard". I've already made another 2 of them but this one weighs in at 5'8 x 19 x 2.25" . If all goes well "The White Out" will work great for anything from knee high to 2 feet over head with a proclivity for doing rail turn cutbacks with tons of speed. It features a big single concave to a panel V out of the tail, Chopped Square tail, low rocker overall with a little flip in the nose and a modern box rail. We named it "The White Out" because after signing and drawing on the board Juan painted over every bit of pencil work with white paint. This will be getting glassed and finned in the next 2 weeks.

Not so cuban linx..

My buddies Johnny Knapp (White), Juan Jose Heredia (Pink) shreaded the Brooklyn team to victory at the 5 boro surf contest this weekend. Juan was riding his trusty little Quevz

Juan as seen above, applying for dual citizenship of Brooklyn and Queens. Those of you who know me know I grew up living between Brooklyn and Queens. The 5 Boro NYC contest puts a bi-boro fellow like myself in a difficult position. With one foot rooted in BK and the other in QB its hard for me to figure out what team to go for in a battle of the boroughs contest, especially when friends are surfing on both teams, head to head, riding my boards. Ha! Even though Juan "Quevz" Heredia and Johnny Knapp took it for Brooklyn and Queens did lose, Chris Caiazzo was shredding hard on the Duster Bouglass. In the end all the matters is "Reppin ya boro!" If theres a bar of wax sold in the park, I want in!

remnant of winter...

The fall and winter ended up being pretty generous to us this year. Of coarse Andrew and the rest of the Kidman family were in town long enough to get more than a taste of some of the best surf we've had in a year or two. However with the Kidman clans departure was the departure of a swell streak as well. We had weeks of flatness after that. The ocean felt the same way we did I guess. The photos above are of the notorious Quevz of the flesh and foam kind. Getting it in. Pre winter 2009.

.painted flowers by Juan Jose Heredia aka "Quevz"...they always seem to keep good thoughts and vibes in perspective.

Juan "Ghost Face" "Quevz" is the king of making the best of nothing waves! i.e. evidence above of homie blasting and slashing in one of the smaller days we had last week. Moments in time frozen and immortalized by Eric L. Cooper.

That is the original "Quevz" Model. The first one off the racks of the Casino. Its still in pretty good condition considering all the places, waves and airs its been through. Its still holding up! Keeping the dream alive!

Recently my homeboy juan aka "the miami kid" aka "quevz" got asked to to paint a back drop for a Saks Fifth Ave. spread. Needless to say it was really dope. Its basically visual crack for the ocular fiend! To catch some more of his work then snatch up this months issue of German Vogue!

Not quite six oh!

This little ashy number is the newest edition to my buddy Juans quiver. From the minds of Malik Jazz, much thought, conversation and collabortaion was devoted into the shape. The contours and rockers, were premeditated and the rails and tail shape revealed themselves in moment. Not quite the quevz model and not quite six'0 this board is 5'11.5 x 18.75 x 2 3/8 with a tapered cedar stringer for extra lip slapping action.
Juan and I wanted to experiment with using a lil' bit more foam then your average chip. We have high hopes for this one. I feel like it will be "The Little Engine That Could". This might very well be the 5'11 that you are comfortable taking out when everyone else is riding their six'tens . Ya dig? Foam was distributed and foiled out. The rails are a bit more bally then they appear and they have a little bit of the quevz down rail flavor. This is one of one so far. The search continues....Updates soon.

During our magic little swell this past friday Quevz the Ghost face himself was making it happen in front of the lens while Tommy "Wave Dancer" was making it happen behind it. Big ups to Tommy for snapping some amazing photos.

Quevz won another contest on the board this weekend too. He took first place in the Masters division at Gilgo beach on saturday and won best two waves of the day. Congrats dude! Represent!

Quevz himself has been riding the board and we've been fine tuning it for maximum shredability. He just got back from Mainland Mex with "The Mini Guinea" himself, Chris "Knuckle Head" Caiazzo where they tested the board in the unfriendly black holes for Puerto Escondido. A new harder rail is being applied and the board is ready for the public and the first advocate of the Quevz way is Frok! Thanks dude! Email some photos of you shredding it!

This board is going to be the first generation quevz model that will be outfitted with 5 fin boxes and will have and option for quad.....the experiment continues..

The magic little Quevz model has been working quite well and all parties are please. Juan has been busting on it and giving good feedback. He won the Rockstock contest taking first place in the masters division and has been drumming up inquiries from curious sliders looking to shred like Quevz. Its the surfer not the board....or is it?

Caiazzo, Juan, Tony Farmer, Shawn Roche and I all surfed together the other day in onshore unfriendly conditions but managed to score unexpected pumping and dumping shorey in the [].

Knuckle Head "C" was busting as well. "He shred so hard he bust his stick"...Literally...Caiazzo came off a huge chunky heavy floater and smashed the first 3 inches off his 5'4" The board is now a snub nose 5'1.
