Recently my homeboy juan aka "the miami kid" aka "quevz" got asked to to paint a back drop for a Saks Fifth Ave. spread. Needless to say it was really dope. Its basically visual crack for the ocular fiend! To catch some more of his work then snatch up this months issue of German Vogue!

The 5%er

Its been a while since my last post huh? .....Sorry about that. I've just been busy shaping and/or sick. I'm better now and will be regularly posting.

The specimen shown above is a new model I'm working on called "The 5 Percenter". (Thanks for the name Franco!) This is the first one so far but I'm working on another one in EPS now. Its 5'5 x 19 1/4 x 2 1/4 It features a fairly hard edge throughout the whole board for a little extra bite and response through turns. Its also going to be setup with 5 FCS fusion plugs for an option for quad. I managed figured out a harmonious fin placement for the board to work properly as a quad and thruster without effecting one or the other in a negative way, however the placement seems to only work best on the smaller boards.

Malcolm Campbell

Malcolm Campbell along with a few other shapers I hold in extremely high regard, has done nothing but inspire and influence me in more ways then just shaping surfboards. His philosophy on life and his passion for the art of surf craft really hits home with me. Malcolm Campbell in my eyes is a the gentle giant of the surfboard world. Having been the innovator of The Bonzer bottom and fin setup, he opened many doors for shapers after him and he reserved himself a spot in the history of surfing. Yet he remains as humble as can be. Give credit where credit is due, and to you Malcolm I tip my hat. Thank you.

"The Popsicle". Shaped a while back. It came together through collaborative efforts between Pat "The Rat" Conlon and I. The Popsicle was our answer to "The Wizard Sleeve". The Wizard Sleeve was that board that Slater shaped himself and surfed in Micronesia on that boat trip a couple months back when he earned himself a the cover of Surfing Mag back in May 09. That board evolved further and Kelly ended up blowing minds when he rode another version of the original Wizard Sleeve at Backdoor (The original was 5'3 and the one Kelly rode at backdoor was 5'10). Anyhow we tweaked it to our preference and our local waves. Anyhow it is continuously being pushed and the results are quite pleasing! Its can handle itself real well in a hollow wave as well perform excellent in summer time surf. We are super stoked on what the board has been able to do. Pat put the board in the hands of the triple world title holder Andy Irons and according to Pat, Andy loved it! I wasn't able to get a chance to talk to Andy about it yet but I'm waiting to hear what he has to say. Stay posted.

Not quite six oh!

This little ashy number is the newest edition to my buddy Juans quiver. From the minds of Malik Jazz, much thought, conversation and collabortaion was devoted into the shape. The contours and rockers, were premeditated and the rails and tail shape revealed themselves in moment. Not quite the quevz model and not quite six'0 this board is 5'11.5 x 18.75 x 2 3/8 with a tapered cedar stringer for extra lip slapping action.
Juan and I wanted to experiment with using a lil' bit more foam then your average chip. We have high hopes for this one. I feel like it will be "The Little Engine That Could". This might very well be the 5'11 that you are comfortable taking out when everyone else is riding their six'tens . Ya dig? Foam was distributed and foiled out. The rails are a bit more bally then they appear and they have a little bit of the quevz down rail flavor. This is one of one so far. The search continues....Updates soon.

its out there, somewhere, we just need to find it

Blanks are slowly disappearing and there has been an order placed for a ton more. Boards are currently getting candied and polished under the watchful eyes and hands of Ed Fawess, Mike Becker and Mark Petrocelli. Finished products will be ready for the visual stimulus sooon.... until then enjoy a slightly different visual stimulus.
